Luxe Leftovers Coffee Cozy

Luxe Leftovers Coffee Cozy
By Rebecca Hill

The inspiration for this coffee cozy came from the leftover Noro I had from making the Calorimetry. It was too beautiful to just let it sit in the bottom of my project bag or stash, and it was just getting to the good part- the GREEN part!!! I love how this yarn is varigated- its the first varigated yarn I've used and have been very pleased with the results. Because it is adjustable, you can use it with your favorite coffee cup at home, OR with the disposable cups at your favorite coffee house! If you knit this, please send me a picture or upload them to your Ravelry notebook!

THIS PATTERN IS MEANT FOR YOUR PERSONAL USE AND NOT TO BE SOLD OR TO BE REPRESENTED AS YOUR OWN WORK!

Materials:
Any Aran or Worsted weight yarn (I used the luxurious Noro Cash Island)
Size 6 straight needles
3 Buttons
Sewing needle
Thread
Rust Proof blocking pins (optional)

Directions:
CO 20
K in Stockinette st until the piece measures 8"
Next Row: BO 5, K to end
Next Row: BO 5, K to end
(10 stitches remain)
Starting with a K row, K 2 rows stockinette stitch
*Next Row: K 3, BO 4, K 3
Next Row: P 3, CO 4 using Cable Cast on method, P 3K 10 rows stockinette st*
Repeat from * to * twice, but on the second repeat, instead of knitting 10 rows st st, only k 2 rows st st.
BO.

If you used an animal fiber, you can block your cozy to make it prettier if desired. Once you're ready to attach your buttons, simply lay the buttonholes across the part of the fabric where the buttons will be to figure out the proper placement for the buttons.

Have a Beautiful day!
XOXO,
Becca

I love this! I want to make one for my sister for Xmas....but I am a very basic knitter. I am confused with the pattern. For instance: knit 2 rows stockinette stitch. Does that mean knit a row than purl a row & that's it? Or P3K 10 rows stockinette????

Thanks for any help you can give!

I love this pattern! I would like to knit this for my sister for Xmas....but I am a very basic knitter.

I understand most of the pattern but have a couple of questions: K 2 rows stockinette stitch, does that mean knit a row, then purl a row & that's it?

What about P3K 10 rows stockinette?

Thanks for any help you can give!

I love this & would like to make my sister one for Chrismas. However even though I have knitted for awhile, I still do basic stuff (how many scarves can one make!) and have trouble with patterns. If you can help I would appreciate it.

Right now I have finished the K3, BO4, K3. I started the next row with P3. I now have 1 stitch, a space, then 2 more stiches on the left needle. Think I made a mistake. But now I am confused.... especially with the "P 3K 10 rows stockinette st". Do I purl 3 stitches, completing the row, then stockinette 10 more rows?

Sorry to take up your time! ;)

No problem! This was only the second time I had used the Cable cast on method myself, and the first time I had used it in a design, so I understand your frustrations! What you are doing here is trying to make the first button hole on the strap, so by binding off the 4 in the middle of the row, you are creating the bottom of the button hole. So in that row you are knitting 3 stitches, binding off 4 in the middle, and knitting the last 3 on the needle. You would then turn your work, purl 3 stitches, and cast on 4 stitches using the Cable Cast on method. There is a wonderful video on knittinghelp.com to show you exactly how to do it to give you a clear idea of exactly what you doing. You then purl the last 3 stitches on the needle and turn your work. Buttonhole complete! :o)

This is a very nice, simple pattern with a distinct style. I was looking for some sort of mug/coffee cup wrap, but the other online patterns were either too hard, with things like unnecessary, intricate cabling, or weren't very cleverly designed at all. This cozy looks "luxe" and will be a mini-knit as part of a gift set for my best friend for Christmas. My first try, however, which only took me one evening, is just a sample that I'm going to keep for my own use.

The link to the picture below is the as-yet-unblocked version of my cozy, using Schachenmayr Nomotta Aurora with a hint of pink chenille laced through it.

I do have a couple comments/suggestions on your pattern. It was very clear up until the buttonholes, when, like your other poster, I ran into some trouble. I taught myself the cable cast-on, but in your pattern you don't mention that after casting-on those four stitches I'd need to move them over to the right-hand needle. I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do at first, and after guessing and moving on, I realized that I'd moved the stitches the wrong way. Actually, I'm still not sure I did it right. Also, directly after the link for the cable cast-on, the words "P 3" and "K 10 rows stockinette" bump right up against each other, which also was very confusing to read. If you could fix those things it would be much much appreciated!

Ah...I just figured out that I was casting onto the wrong needle. That would be why it was so difficult for me. I had to reverse the work, cast on, and then turn it back around to the right side to continue. I think. Thanks again for a cute pattern (my cozy is blocking right now!).

Love this! Am making for friends for Christmas present. Has anyone found a way to keep it from sliding off of certain mugs, though? I was trying to think of something I could line it with that would help it hug the mug. Maybe that stuff that you can but to line shelves with?

You could try that, or you could also try this little tip I found regarding knit slippers and keeping them from sliding around floors- go to the craft store and buy a bottle of that puff paint stuff. You can either dot the inside of the cozy with the paint, of you could even use the paint to make a design! Good luck! Send me a picture (or post a link to your picture here!) and you will be entered into my contest!

I finished a bunch of the cozies! They are so fun & easy to make.

I used clear glitter puffy paint (couldn't find a color that matched nor plain clear). Doesn't look too bad, but it sure works to keep the cozy from sliding around.

I have pictures, not sure how to post them. And I do apologize for my previous 3 identical posts from Nov!
